Chinese Singer Huo Zun Makes a Successful Comeback Years After Being Cancelled

After several years away from the spotlight, singer Henry Huo Zun has returned to the stage at a recent music festival in China, in addition to being on tour for a musical this year. His comeback began quietly in late 2023, when he appeared at an overseas concert in Las Vegas, testing the waters. In 2024, he held three solo concerts in the country. Given that his activities have gradually increased to large-scale events, it certainly marks a successful comeback for the singer.

It can be remembered that in August 2021, Huo Zun’s ex-girlfriend Chen Lu publicly accused him of “emotional neglect” and released chat screenshots that blew up into a controversy, leading him to apologize and announce his withdrawal from the industry. The narrative later shifted as Chen Lu was investigated on suspicion of attempting to extort 9 million yuan, and the case was transferred to prosecutors in 2023. Huo Zun also won defamation lawsuits against several vloggers after courts ruled that portions of the chat logs had been maliciously edited.

Why has he managed a comeback when many other “canceled” artists in China have not? The new developments in his controversy certainly helped. The singer also drew praise once more for his unique vocals. While some continue to question the issues raised during the scandal, and note that there has been no official outcome in the case involving his ex, it looks like the singer is well on his way to rebuilding his career.
