Finally, news that Hu Yitian fans have been waiting for – after a two year hiatus, the 31-year-old Chinese actor is back to filming brand new drama projects! First up is the campus drama Genius Girlfriend 天才女友 where he will play the intelligent and bookish sweetheart of Tian Xiwei’s character. Based on the novel of the same name by Su Guang, the drama primarily focuses on the growing feelings between a gifted young woman and her childhood sweetheart as they grow into adulthood.
As far as his casting goes, it definitely feels like a homecoming for him seeing that he first shot to fame in the campus youth drama A Love So Beautiful. However, some definitely feel that with him now in his 30s, perhaps, it’s time to step away from campus dramas and pursue other roles to challenge himself.
Hu Yitian’s Second Billing in Genius Girlfriend Sparks Discussion
Tian Xiwei gets top billing in this one whilst Hu Yitian comes in at second. With him being away for so long, not to mention Genius Girlfriend being much more focused on Tian Xiwei’s character’s story, this kinda makes sense. I reckon it’s also a great place to reacquaint himself and dust off those acting skills. Nonetheless, some of his fans aren’t quite keen on Tian Xiwei getting top billing over him.
Genius Girlfriend marks Hu Yitian’s comeback after a prolonged time away. Prior to this, the last drama he filmed was Blossoms in Adversity which he starred in alongside Zhang Jingyi. Both had equal billing though his name was mentioned first. That was back in 2023. Netizens are now talking about how Genius Girlfriend is the first time Hu Yitian is second billed in the nine years since he debuted in 2016. Nevertheless, many are just glad to see him back. It looks like he’s certainly all set to make his showbiz return as filming kicks off.
