Bai Jingting’s latest sci-fi thriller Mobius has him tackling yet another time travelling series, this time playing a police detective who finds himself with the ability to travel through time and uses it to solve baffling cases. This is the second time the actor takes on a project with this theme and if you’re thinking about his sci-fi whodunit series Reset 开端 where he and co-star Zhao Jinmai tried to prevent the constant loop of the bus exploding, then you’re bang on. In Mobius, the story takes a similar vein except he’s trying to determine the culprit before they succeed in blowing everyone (his colleagues included) into smithereens.
Mobius Synopsis
Bai Jingting plays Ding Qi, a police detective whose special ability also lets him repeat the cycle 5 times a day. That means he has five chances to investigate and change the outcome before his colleagues and everyone else are blown to pieces. I can get why the literal translation of the Chinese title ‘Bu Mian Ri (不眠日)’ is ‘Sleepless Day’ because with time looping back five times in a day, heck, who has time for sleep? Not to mention all the stress he’s under trying to keep everyone alive. However it seems the unknown perp has his number and is always one step ahead of the police. Could he be another looper?
Aside from Bai Jingting, the project features other notable actors such as Hong Kong actress Janice Man from the hit movie Lost in the Stars playing the calm and intelligent biologist An Lan. Song Yang rounds up the main leads. Mobius also features special appearances by Liu Yijun as well as Thai actress Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying aka Aokbab and Hong Kong actor Ricky Chan Po Yuen. It is produced by iQIYI, Youhug and Leben Wenhua.
