Invincible Swordsman: A Film Based on Jin Yong’s Classic Wuxia Sets Premiere

Invincible Swordsman

Look what’s coming to screens on Lunar New Year’s eve! Adapted from Jin Yong’s wuxia novel The Smiling, Proud Wanderer, Invincible Swordsman 笑傲江湖 is all set for its online release on January 28th. This being yet another Wong Jing reboot with his recent one being Kung Fu Cult Master, the film could either be a hit or a miss. Kitty Zhang Yuqi stars as Dongfang Bubai, the new master of the evil Demon Cult. Creation of the Gods actor Huang Xiyan plays main protagonist Linghu Chong.

As for the rest of the cast, no doubt the image of Sammo Hong with his silvery beard and long grey eyebrows front and centre on the epic poster would’ve captured your attention. Indeed, you’ll find the veteran actor as a guest star in the film playing Feng Qingyang. Speaking of that awesome poster, love the direction they went with the reds and retro vibes which are totally reminiscent of old posters from the 80s and 90s.

Zhang Yuqi who plays Dongfang Bubai in what else but vivid red is totally eyecatching. Note Terence Yin who plays Ren Woxing’s character with his distinctive eye patch and white hair streaming in the wind.  The film’s poster also features the iconic scene from the original novel where Linghu Chong and Dongfang Bubai are facing off for an epic confrontation. You’ll also see Xuan Lu portraying Ren Yingying and Yun Qianqian as Yue Lingshan.

Invincible Swordsman follows along the life journeys of Linghu Chong, a disciple of the Huashan martial arts sect, who despite wanting to quit the martial arts world altogether was forced to get involved in the battle between good and evil sects fighting for supremacy. Whilst doing so, he accidentally meets the new leader of the evil sect Dongfang Bubai.
