Famed director Zhang Yimou who’s won critical acclaim as a filmmaker ventures into Chinese dramas as the executive producer for the TV series The First Shot 雪迷宫 set for release on September 3, 2024. And who better to lead the anti drug-trafficking investigative drama than “Chinese Entertainment’s Special Forces soldier” Johnny Huang Jingyu who’d already earned himself the well deserved moniker, having starred in countless military or police themed projects to date.
The First Shot Synopsis
Set in 1997 when a sudden drug crisis befalls the relatively young and inexperienced Halan police force, a temporary team headed by Huang Jingyu’s Zheng Bei made up of a forensic expert, a martial arts pro and a chemistry expert is quickly assembled to go head to head against the city’s drug trafficking groups. The First Shot takes viewers along for the exciting ride as the makeshift elite team is assembled, each with their own strengths but completely clueless about the new drug flooding the market. As they attempt to unravel the drug syndicate’s devious schemes, they also face dilemmas that challenge them morally.
Action-Packed Series
A first look shows there’s definitely no shortage of action as Zheng Bei and his crimefighting crew investigate to shut down the cunning drug ring once and for all. Though Zhang Yu who plays Jiang Xiaohai doesn’t seem to be part of the team, it looks like he’s very much part of the action. Then, there’s Wang Ziqi’s Gu Yiran, the professor whose expertise regarding the new drugs out on the market makes him a big asset.
Chloe Xie Keyin, also known as singer-rapper Shaking who first rose to fame in the idol survival show Youth with You 2, gives off very different vibes as Zhang Xueyao – she’s the resident martial arts pro after all, as she takes down an entire group at a club. Huang Jingyu’s trusty sidekick Zhao Yaoguang is played by actor Liu Runnan. His character supposedly has a nose that rivals or is even better than a police dog’s in sniffing out trouble. Then there’s Zhao Yutong’s Ding Guozhu, the task force’s forensic expert and Lin Boyang whose name is Zheng Nan and likely plays Johnny Huang’s sister.
