[LATEST UPDATE] The premiere date has been rescheduled to November 14, 2022 on Tencent Video.
She and Her Perfect Husband 爱的二八定律 was supposed to finally hit screens on October 13. However, the show suddenly announced at 11pm on October 11 that it’s been postponed due to technical issues. It isn’t clear what constitutes the “technical issue” but sudden postponements like this are all too common. Earlier this month, Wang Yibo’s pilot-themed Born to Fly which was supposed to be among the big movies for China’s National Day was also suddenly postponed. Some speculate if She and Her Perfect Husband may have been too entertaining for this period or whether it’s to make way for better things like a simultaneous TV broadcast. Whatever the cause, it looks like fans waiting for the drama since filming wrapped in 2021 may have to wait a little longer but let’s hope it won’t be too long.
A Hotshot Lawyer Meets Her Match in a Younger Man
She and Her Perfect Husband is the first collaboration between Yang Mi who’s in her mid-thirties and co-star Xu Kai who is 9 years younger. Touted as a marriage of convenience/contract marriage turning into something more sort of romance, the series also falls into the jie di lian (older woman, younger man) trope which we all know has been gaining in popularity.
Like most romances in the JDL trope, Yang Mi plays the seasoned hotshot lawyer who’s very much the alpha in the relationship. However she meets her match in the gentle and thoughtful (and very much younger) Yang Hua.
Xu Kai who plays Yang Hua seems to have the role of a sweet and romantic younger man down to a T. But then again, he’s no stranger to the younger man and older woman dynamic with his earlier works. Nonetheless it’s very refreshing to see him giving modern dramas a chance since we almost always see him in costume dramas. Watching the trailer, whilst Yang Mi and Xu Kai are undoubtedly a great looking couple onscreen, I’m still a wee bit undecided about the pair’s chemistry. However, I do love the awkward vibes between the two especially at the start of their “marriage” when they begin playing house. That said, I can’t wait to see how the story unfolds and how everything will pan out.
She and Her Perfect Husband Synopsis
The city’s top law firm is currently recruiting lawyers specialising in family law. The catch? Candidates must be married. Qin Shi (Yang Mi) is a career focused lawyer who’s also very much single. Hoping to get her hired by the firm, her headhunter (who’s also her brother) secretly marks her marital status as “married”. Qin Shi’s good work quickly earns her the admiration of the firm’s head honcho. Except her brother’s teeny lie comes back to bite her in the butt later on. Learning that she’s supposed to be married, she tries to the clarify the situation with her boss. But as she was about to do so, her “husband” Yang Hua (Xu Kai) suddenly appears.
Meanwhile, Yang Hua was forced by his mother to go on a blind date with Qin Shi’s rival. Angry that he was being married off by his mother, he sought Qin Shi’s help. Two people unwilling to marry suddenly find themselves under a contract marriage to solve their problems. And while it was purely contractual at first, it starts to turn into something more.
She and Her Perfect Husband also stars Li Zefeng as Qin Shi’s ex, Tang Jing Mei who plays Qin Shi’s competition at the firm, Qin Shi’s trusted assistant played by Wang Zixuan with a special appearance by actress Liu Lin.

chemistry looked great for me from the first trailer but my desire to watch the drama is slowly waning with the delay. I guess I should stay away a while.
