According to Hong Kong media, Wong Cho Lam has officially left his post in TVB. It can be remembered that Wong whose career shifted to mainland China for several years returned to TVB in January 2021 along with Eric Tsang to take up high-level posts. In his new role as Chief Creative Officer, he aimed to help Eric in the restructure of variety shows and development of entertainment programs for the network.
Although it’s only been over a year, Wong’s departure does not exactly come as a surprise. Back in February, there were rumors of a falling out with TVB executives over Linda Chung’s Best Actress snub at the 2021 TVB Anniversary Awards where he had been pushing for her to win.
TVB Chairman Thomas Hui reportedly had a discussion with Wong over his decision though it still ended with his departure. Nonetheless, the relationship between both parties remain friendly. Wong’s company Tailor Made Production Limited (手工藝創作) still maintains its cooperation with Shaw Brothers. Hence, Wong will continue to participate in the production of several TVB variety shows such as the upcoming music show Sheng Sheng Bu Xi (聲生不息) which is a large-scale collaboration with mainland China’s Mango TV, as well as the new seasons of Dub-Of-War (好聲好戲) and Mama’s Day (日日媽媽聲).
Update: TVB issued a statement on April 10 to refute the reports about Wong Cho Lam’s departure saying that he’s in mainland China working on programs on behalf of the company.
