Seven decades after his debut in the entertainment industry, Hong Kong screen veteran Patrick Tse receives his very first Hong Kong Film Awards nomination for Best Actor. The 85-year-old showbiz legend is nominated for his role in the movie Time 殺出個黃昏. He stars as a retired and aging assassin who sets up an assisted suicide service for elderly folks.
Like his movie character, Patrick supposedly came out of retirement to play a now redundant hitman who finds his “second purpose” in this film. It is a mix of comedy, action and drama all rolled in one. Patrick also reunites with his former Deep in Love co-star Petrina Fung. They form one third of their “elderly suicide assistance squad” along with Lam Suet.

Meanwhile, Patrick’s son Nicholas Tse also has a movie Raging Fire in the running for eight categories such as Best Film and Best Director fo the late Benny Chan. Nicholas didn’t quite make it to the Best Actor list though, so he won’t be going head to head against his father.
After a two year hiatus, the Hong Kong Film Awards returns this year for its 40th edition. It honours nominees from both 2020 and 2021 which were skipped due to the pandemic. Action thriller Limbo and biographical flick Anita lead with the most nominations, receiving 14 and 12 nods respectively.
