Hong Kong veteran actor Dicky Cheung has made the iconic role of Sun Wukong, aka Monkey King, his own after playing it twice in his career. In fact, he skyrocketed in popularity through the TVB drama Journey to the West in 1996. He would portray the same role again in the 2002 adaptation of the same entitled The Monkey King: Quest for the Sutra.
Dicky Cheung who has taken a step back from showbiz since starring in The Learning Curve of a Warlord in 2017 surprised everyone when he suddenly joined the Chinese talent show Shine! Super Brothers 2 追光吧2 as a contestant. In a recent episode, Dicky was Monkey King again complete with facial hair for a performance. Even if it’s just for a few seconds, it’s surely a nostalgic moment for those who watched Dicky growing up. He goes on to perform the song Gao Gao Zai Shang 高高在上 from The Monkey King series alongside fellow contestant and professional dancer Han Yu from Street Dance of China. Many were impressed with the 56-year-old actor-singer’s powerful movements during their routine, not to mention that he pretty much looks the same.
