Liu Yifei Returns to Historical Dramas After Over a Decade in “A Dream of Splendor” Opposite Chen Xiao

Fifteen years since appearing as Xiaolongnü in The Return of the Condor Heroes, Crystal Liu Yifei  finally returns to the genre that earned her the nickname “Fairy Sister”. The Mulan actress will be starring opposite another Condor Heroes alum Chen Xiao in the historical drama A Dream of Splendor (Meng Hua Lu) 梦华录 although their versions of Xiaolongnü and Yang Guo never did quite “get together” seeing that they’re close to being a decade apart with her in the original 2006 version and him in 2014’s The Romance of the Condor Heroes. Nonetheless, the Condor Heroes pairing fans had been hoping to see but which never quite made it on-screen is at long last happening .. just in a different drama series.

A Dream of Splendor Synopsis

A Dream of Splendor is based on the work of Yuan dynasty playwright Guan Hanqing about three amazing ladies who through their sheer grit and determination managed to stand on their own, turning a small teahouse into the largest restaurant in the city.

Liu Yifei stars as said teashop owner Zhao Pan Er who moved to the capital to seek revenge after being jilted by her fiancé Ouyang Xu, played by Joe Xu Haiqiao. Whilst there, she makes the acquaintance of Ada Liu Yan’s Sun Sanniang and Jelly Lin Yun’s Song Yinzhang, both of whom were similarly wronged by the men in their lives. Together, these three ladies face the many lemons life throws at them, ultimately coming out as victors. As for Chen Xiao, it’s not quite clear yet how the screenwriters plan on tackling his role since the original story pretty much focuses on the ladies. All we know for now is that he’ll be playing Liu Yifei’s romantic interest in the drama adaptation.
