Check out all the angsty feels in Hu Yitian and Hu Bingqing’s version of Ba Yue Chang An’s Unrequited Love 暗恋橘生淮南 as the drama drops a new trailer and a MV in the run up to its premiere tonight January 20.
If the title conjures up images of pensive moments, stolen glances, tears and lots of staring when the other one is not looking, it appears that’s exactly what we’ll be getting for just about everyone (not just our main leads) in the 38 episode long drama if the trailer is any indicator. That’s a whole lot of pining going on to be honest but I suppose that’s only to be expected since our heroine Luo Zhi has been carrying a flame for Huai Nan for ten long years after all.
Nonetheless, all the stolen sweet glances will have you rooting for the pair while at the same time also wishing a teensy bit that you could reach into the screens to give ‘em both a little shake to finally see (and verbalise) what’s been right in front of their noses. Alas, there wouldn’t be a story if that happened right at the beginning now would it?
As far as unrequited love goes, there’s enough stories out there about the heart wrenching pain brought about by a one-sided love like our heroine has for Huai Nan. And yet we all still keep coming back for them. Maybe it’s the hope that things will turn out better for the star crossed lovers on screen and in books than in real life you know?
Hu Yitian and Hu Bingqing’s version of Unrequited Love is actually the second one produced in recent years following the web adaptation headlined by Zhu Yan Man Zi and Zhao Shunran of Ba Yue Chang An’s super popular book in the Zhen Hua trilogy. How it fares in comparison to the web adaptation we’ve yet to see, but it certainly won’t be long now because the drama already drops tonight.
Unrequited Love also stars Zhang Yi Jie as Huai Nan’s cheery roommate Zhang Ming Rui as well as Liu Mei Han as the tarot loving Jiang Baili, Deng Shang as Baili’s handsome BF Gebi and Liu Biqu’s Chen Mohan whose relationship forms a love triangle of sorts in the drama.
Release Date: January 20, 2021 at 8pm every Tuesday to Thursday on MGTV and Tencent
