A Touch of Green (雾里青) is a modern romance drama starring Li Xian and Zhang Jingyi and helmed by Taiwanese director Chu Yu-ning. Adapted from a novel by Ming Kai Ye He, the story follows Chen Qingwu as she ends her gives up on her complicated relationship with her childhood friend Meng Qiran, then gradually accepts the six-year secret love of his older brother, Meng Fuyuan. Li Xian plays Meng Fuyuan, the founder of a tech company. Zhang Jingyi plays Chen Qingwu, a calm and artistic ceramic maker.
It’s pretty clear we’ll have “love triangle” tensions for one woman between two brothers no less. Part of the plot literally captures the moment when Meng Qi Ran wanted to propose, and Meng Fu Yuan and Chen Qing Wu shared a stolen kiss in the study. It already sounds complicated with the number of tropes such as the childhood sweethearts who miss out on each other and a male lead with a secret crush on the heroine.
Li Xian can no doubt deliver in this role opposite Zhang Jingyi, but many had wondered about the second male lead, who plays a significant part as the third leg of the triangle. Leaked photos from the currently-filming A Touch of Green set reveal that the role of the younger brother, Meng Qi Ran, will be played by rising actor Liu Xiaobei who first made his acting debut as a supporting role in 2021’s My Heroic Husband.
