Veteran Hong Kong actor Bowie Wu, born in 1932 and now age 94, recently sat down for an interview where he spoke candidly about the transition from leading man in his heyday to supporting roles on television. The actor admitted the shift was difficult to accept at first. However, with encouragement from his late wife, Lui Wing Hoi, he gradually adjusted his mindset and nowadays, he finds that the busier he is, the happier he feels. Today, Bowie Wu is a grandfather, and even a great-grandfather.
In recent years, he has frequently been linked to fellow veteran actress Law Lan, born in 1934 and also in her 90s, who has never married and has no children. The two often portray a couple on screen and are close friends in real life, which has fueled persistent rumors of a “late-life romance.” At one point, headlines claiming “Bowie Wu to marry Law Lan” even trended on Chinese platforms, though both have denied the claims. Taking the speculation in stride, Bowie Wu said he does not mind the rumors continuing to circulate. “They’ve been circulating for years and are still going,” he remarked. “But it doesn’t matter. At 93, it’s rare to still be making news! I heard this came from the mainland, let it keep spreading. The more headlines, the better.”
