The Noble (金枝) held its booting ceremony on February 10, 2026. Li Yitong and Chen Xingxu were announced as equally billed leads, though Li Yitong’s name is listed first, a detail that has sparked some discussion from fans.
Li Yitong takes on a dual role, portraying Chen Que’er, born into the lowest social class, and Zhao Jinzhi, a princess whose identity she assumes. The story follows her rise up the ranks while challenging rigid class structures. Chen Xingxu plays Lu Xingzhi, a strategist with dual identities as both the adopted son of a duke and a blind political adviser.
As the drama is female-centric, some of Chen Xingxu’s fans initially expressed concern that his role might be reduced to a supporting position. The Noble is written by Cao Xiaotian, whose previous work includes The Glory, a hit drama that some feel highlighted the heroine more. The series is directed by Zeng Qingjie, known for the hit drama Blossom.
However, it looks like even Chen Xingxu’s remarks at the booting ceremony are being picked apart online. Li Yitong spoke for approximately one minute about her decision to accept the role. She said she was moved by the character’s spirit, as well as the idea that one’s fate is self-determined rather than dictated by heaven. She also expressed gratitude to the director, screenwriter, and production team. Meanwhile, Chen Xingxu’s remarks were much shorter. He began by saying that he had not been asked to prepare a speech beforehand, then added that he is committed to the role and thanked the producers and creative team. His remark about not having memorized a speech was interpreted by some as a subtle jab at his co-star, while others felt it was reading too much into it.
