Loving Strangers: Chinese Adaptation of My Mister Brings Together Mark Chao and Zhang Zifeng

Loving Strangers (秋雪漫过的冬天) airdropped today, January 10, 2026 on Youku. This being an adaptation of the hit K-drama My Mister starring the late Lee Sun Kyun and IU, casting seems spot on with Mark Chao opposite award-winning actress Wendy Zhang Zifeng who’s bound to act her socks off just like her predecessor.

Cast, Synopsis, Initial Reception

The story centers on the mutual redemption between Jiang Jiaqi, a middle-aged engineer fallen on hard times with a failing marriage and a toxic workplace; and Zhou Yu’an, a debt-ridden young woman who has to care for her bedridden grandma. Their paths cross through a workplace bribery case, and their relationship evolves from hostility to healing.

Zhang Xincheng breaks his usual image for a special appearance as the brooding antagonist Chen Ren. Incidentally, he also reunites with Zhang Zifeng after The Heart of Genius. Xin Yunlai, plays Jiang Jiaqi’s younger brother Jiang Jialu whose character faces challenges of his own. It also stars Jiang Yiyan, Zhang Chao, Rong Zixi, Yang Yiwei and Chi Jia.

Written by Yu Xiaoqian (The Longest Season) and directed by Han Tian (Ray of Light), Loving Strangers will inevitably be compared to My Mister, which remains a true masterpiece. My Mister thrived on its portrayal of ordinary, exhausted lives, a theme that can feel heavy or even depressing. The Chinese remake also takes a slow-burn approach, which may not align with today’s fast-paced habits as first day viewership was quite low. But if it if it’s anything like the original, it could prove just as deeply cathartic.
