A recent appearance by Hu Ge on the talk show The Mind Speaks (共同说) ignited online debate. When asked whether he’d treat boys and girls differently when it comes to teaching, he responded, “I’d probably be more tolerant with girls, stricter with boys, I might have a bit less patience.” What seemed to be a reflection on parenting style has gotten the actor trending under the hashtag “Hu Ge speaks about his second child, a son, for the first time.” His words were interpreted as the 43-year-old star finally confirming long-running rumors that he and wife Huang Xining have indeed welcomed a second child. It even snowballed into “marketing accounts” claiming he favors daughters over sons, labels some counter are far removed from his actual intention.
Speaking about fatherhood, Hu Ge lovingly said, “I’m like a kite, no matter wear it flies, there will always be a tiny hand grabbing on to the string.” The actor has been quite candid about his struggles with balancing his career and family life. Because of long filming schedules, the bulk of childcare responsibilities have been shouldered by his manager wife. It can be remembered that the actor first revealed he was married in 2023 and that his wife has given birth to a daughter.
Hu Ge also emphasizes that he feels parents must first improve themselves. If a parent expects their child to develop a certain habit or attitude, he believes the adult must be able to practice what they preach first, otherwise, they lose credibility. For him, he’s been trying his best to be a better person ever since becoming a dad.
