Jackson Yee Sheds His Idol Image in Resurrection, Transforming Into a Monster Unrecognizable on Screen

At just 24 years old, Chinese actor Jackson Yee (Yi Yangqianxi) has made many achievements that few of his generation can match. And his commitment to his craft has once again gotten everyone talking, after the trailer for his upcoming film Resurrection 狂野时代 introduced a person who’s practically unrecognizable.

In the film, Jackson Yee delivers one of his boldest performances yet, portraying five completely different characters, including a haunting, bald, pale, and hunched, with decaying skin and hollow eyes. It’s no wonder viewers failed to recognize him at all. To embody the creature’s twisted posture, Jackson Yee was said to have trained for months walking with his back bent, even sustaining muscle strain long after filming wrapped. This level of dedication isn’t new for him. In Big World, he convincingly portrayed a teenager with cerebral palsy. He later made a cameo in She’s Got No Name as a blind fortune teller, hidden under layers of aging makeup. And his new role has gotten him trending as a “madman of cinema” due to how versatile he can be for his roles.

In addition to Jackson Yee, Resurrection also boasts a star-studded cast of Shu Qi, Mark Chao and more. Directed by Bi Gan, it previously won the Special Award at the 78th Cannes Film Festival and the Artistic Contribution Award at the 30th Busan International Film Festival. In a world where humans no longer dream, except for some, the movie explores five interconnected storylines, representing dreams for each of the senses.
