Looking for a potential kdrama binge on this summer? TvN’s latest supernatural series Head Over Heels might just be the thing. Marketed as the next Lovely Runner, a famous young shaman takes it upon herself to change the destiny of a guy she has a crush on when she foresees his unlucky future. Already four episodes in, ratings have dropped down to 3.74% and 3.483% in viewership when compared to last week’s 4.3% when it first aired although public opinion appears to be split.
Mixed Reactions
Some of the negative opinion seems to be centred on the two leads and their acting. “Acting is a bit discouraging … I gave up after watching for a while.” “I didn’t get the CP feeling yet”. Viewers who didn’t enjoy the show questioned the pairing between Cho Yi-hyun and Choo Young-woo who both had breakout roles with All Of Us Are Dead and The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call respectively, not to mention they both starred in School 2021. However, there’s also the other half of the viewers who are totally stoked with the adorable chemistry between the two.
Aside from loving on the sweet dynamics of the pair, many found it refreshing to have a charming female lead who isn’t shy of letting her feelings known. I mean, she did chase Choo Young-woo’s Gyeon Woo because well, she liked him and mainly because she wanted to save his life. And if that’s not enough of a declaration, I don’t know how else can she make her interest any clearer.
A Secret Identity and a Brewing Storm
Then there’s also the ‘mystery’ of Park Seong Ah’s ‘secret’ identity as the uber famous shaman Fairy Cheon Ji which needs to be addressed. Starting off a potential relationship on the wrong foot and based on a lie isn’t exactly the best way to start. But alas we’ll have to wait another episode to know what happens next. Now that they finally need to confront the big elephant in the room this early into the series, dare we hope there isn’t gonna be a third-act breakup to come between them?
Head Over Heels tells the story of a high school student who has a secret double life as a famous shaman named Fairy Cheon Ji. One evening, she finds herself falling head over heels for a boy who turns out to be a new transfer student in her class. Because she foresees his demise which will be happening soon, she makes it her mission to change his fate.
