According to Hong Kong media, the 26-year-old star was rescued by a passing vessel. Keung To was conscious when rescued and was promptly transported via ambulance from the Central Government Pier to Queen Mary Hospital. After receiving initial treatment, Keung To was transferred to a private hospital to continue recovery. By 9:00 PM that evening, he issued a statement through his manager to reassure fans: “It was just a small accident due to my carelessness. I’m fine, please don’t worry, hope people won’t speculate, very sorry for causing everyone to worry.”
Clarifying the Incident
Keung To’s team stated that the incident was caused by an accidental slip after drinking. They added he had been out for a walk near his home when it happened. This clarification debunks speculation that it was a suicide attempt.
Keung To has long been open about struggles with mental health and physical stress. He skyrocketed to fame in 2018, winning the survival show “Good Night Show – King Maker” and debuting with boy group MIRROR, which quickly became Hong Kong’s top boy band. However, the popular idol gained significant weight in recent years and endured online bullying. Fans rallied in support, asking others to stop mocking him. Some, however, continued to question his star power and made tasteless jokes about the incident, prompting backlash for lacking empathy.
Ultimately, Keung To’s fall into the sea appears to be an accident, but it has reignited discussion about the immense pressure faced by top idols. The singer eventually took to social media with a thumbs up photo, “Don’t worry everyone, see you tomorrow!” — showing fans that all is well.
