Another One Edited Out of Chinese Variety Show: Shi Kai Faces Controversy

Singer and variety star Shi Kai was recently accused of cheating and emotional abuse. The situation began when a Weibo user claiming to be the sister of Shi Kai’s ex-girlfriend Yiyi claims he had gotten engaged with her sister on February 28, 2024, only to later break up. The post included a blurry audio clip and a video said to be from their “engagement party.”

The accuser claimed their relationship lasted for many years starting 2017, during which Shi Kai was allegedly unfaithful and deceptive multiple times. However, inconsistencies in the timeline—such as Shi Kai reportedly filming in Shanghai during the dates in question—have cast doubt on her claims. Supporters pointed out that the so-called engagement video was actually taken at a friend’s wedding.

In response, Shi Kai’s legal team issued a statement denying all allegations and announced they had initiated legal proceedings. Meanwhile, Shi Kai—who had been gaining popularity through various variety shows—has been noticeably absent from Hello Saturday, where he was a regular guest. Clearly, the network isn’t taking any chances, much like what happened with Victor Qin during his own controversy. Scenes originally featuring Shi Kai were carefully re-edited, resulting in strange moments where cast members appeared to interact with “invisible” people. While it’s not exactly a good thing, some netizens couldn’t help but joke that with every episode, the post-production team is getting scarily good at this kind of cover-up that you can no longer tell anymore.
