“90 years old is already a long life, what’s the point of living longer? So I’m not at all afraid… I’m laughing, not crying.” Hong Kong opera singer and actor Law Kar Ying who battled cancer several times recently revealed in an interview that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer – his fourth one in so many years. However, the 78-year-old star said frankly that despite the 8 or 9 extra years estimated by his doctor, he won’t be going through any chemo or radiation again. The way he sees it, he wants to be comfortable as he says his goodbyes to his friends and loved ones.
Fighting Cancer Three Times Already
Law Kar Ying also got candid about his experience battling cancer over the years. In 2004, he was diagnosed with stage 3 liver cancer at just 59-years-old which required surgery to save his life. Then in 2014, a tumour was found in his liver. After recovering from the treatments, all was well until 2019 when cancer cells were found in his prostate tissue. Even though he once again recovered from the ordeal, he still suffered after effects despite getting surgery. The opera star said that reciting the Heart Sutra helped get him through the hard times.
Despite his fourth cancer diagnosis, Law Kar Ying appears to be in very good condition. He recently starred in a play with Hong Kong actress and singer Athena Chu and has even been touring the mainland.
