Chen Zheyuan and Jiang Xin Play Siblings in ‘Light the Dark’

Chen Zheyuan and Jiang Xin Play Siblings in Suspense Drama 'Light the Dark'

We’ve seen Chen Zheyuan as the ultimate green flag, then acting his socks off in The White Olive Tree. In between, he starred in a spy thriller—so we know he can do all of that and more. Now, it’s been announced that he’s co-starring with Jiang Xin—famous for her role in Empresses in the Palace—in a new series titled Light the Dark (把黑夜点燃).

A period piece set in the 1990s, it’s a 12-episode iQIYI minidrama with a hard-hitting story of an older sister and younger brother duo seeking justice. We don’t often this theme so it should be interesting. The 41-year-old Jiang Xin continues to prove her versatility—we’ve seen her play villains and rom-com heroines. The first look of the two in costume suggests an intelligent, emotionally charged drama blending suspense, family trauma, and workplace politics. The 28-year-old actor sports a buzz cut, transforming into a hardened character.

Light the Dark tells the story of siblings Chen Ying and Chen Shan, whose parents died in an explosion in the late 1990s, their family caught in the internal power struggles of the petroleum system. Brother and sister become estranged amidst mounting obstacles but eventually reconcile.
