The Rise of Ning co-stars Ren Min and Ci Sha are back together again, this time as an onscreen couple in the upcoming drama adaptation of the webnovel of the same name Liang Chen Mei Jin 良陈美锦 (lit. Displaying Beautiful Brocade) by Chen Xiang Hui Jin. Set to the theme of rebirth, the drama has already begun filming after holding its boot ceremony in Hengdian Studios today.
Ren Min and Ci Sha will appear as the series’ main couple – Gu Jinchao, the eldest daughter of the Gu family and government minister Chen Sanye. When they worked together in The Rise of Ning, Ci Sha played the second male lead Lu Jiaxue who had a doomed love affair with Luo Yining – Ren Min’s character. Before that, Ren Min also took the lead in The Longest Promise, in which Ci Sha also played a supporting role. Liang Chen Mei Jin would make their third drama together. Aside from these two, the series also confirmed Winwin Dong Sicheng – the prince Ye Xian in the story, and Huang Yi who rounds up the cast as the second female lead.
The original novel tells the story of a beautiful heroine determined to avoid the mistakes of her past life and rewrite her destiny after being reborn, paired with her love interest Chen Sanye — an older man and powerful cabinet minister. Casting-wise, some feel it’s way off from the original description. Not to mention, the two leads are also close in age (both in their mid-twenties), suggesting the drama may be downplaying the “mature older man marrying a much younger girl” dynamic from the novel. It’s also getting comments for looking too similar in styling to The Rise of Ning, which also centers on political maneuvering in a courtyard setting. Still, fans of Ren Min and Ci Sha’s “doomed” romance in the previous drama will likely be excited to see the pair continue their story here.

The styling for Ren Min is very not flattering for her face shape. It makes her look so round. She generally gets criticized for not looking good in costume dramas, but I thought she actually looked decent in Rise of Ning. They just need to style her better.
Ci Sha is a great actor. Glad to see him on screen more often.

I think Ren Min is very cute. I don’t get the complaints about her looks. My only complaint is when they put too much little decorations in the hair. I prefer simple and bold versus hundreds of ribbons, chains, or butterflies.
I love Ci Sha, I’m glad he is getting a chance to play the main role. He gives off cool manly vibes. he is not a pretty boy.
