Destiny and Saving 千秋令, which stars Zhang Yuxi and Tong Mengshi, is set to premiere on April 8, 2025. The fantasy romance series produced by H&R Century Pictures promises a return to the classic xianxia roots of good versus evil. But the question remains, whether there’s still a market for it.
Plot Synopsis
Destiny and Saving tells the story of Feng Lixue (Zhang Yuxi) and Mo Xiao (Tong Mengshi) the young leader of Shushan who was been reincarnated for thousands of years and embarked on his own path. Like their ancestors the Fire Phoenix Ni Huang and the God of War Bai Yan who gradually fell in love despite their opposing views, Zhang Yuxi’s character too falls in love with Mo Xiao. Lixue has been groomed to take over as the head of the evil sect. And it looks like the main couple are bound to turn against each other due to misunderstandings. This being the typical xianxia is marketed as having “three lifetimes and three worlds” which should be why the heroine has three different identities, the last one has her going by the name Wu Chen.
Still Marketable?
In recent years, many fantasy dramas didn’t fare so well. Destiny and Saving was filmed back in 2022 when fantasy and tales of immortal heroes were still on trend. These days though, the genre seems to have lost favour amongst audiences. Take the big budget Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Red-Moon Pact, which stars Chinese superstar Yang Mi. Even the famous Yang Mi touch failed to save the show which pretty much flopped in the ratings. Likewise, the more recent A Moment But Forever which stars Tang Yan also started out pretty badly (though I hope things pick up soon). Let’s hope Destiny and Saving can fare much better. It also stars Han Dong, Bo Fangjun, Huang Yi Piggy and Chen Zihan.
