Of course, Chinese short drama Sadistic Love 掌中雀, which premiered March 13 on Tencent, opens with Dai Gaozheng shirtless! It’s a classic drama scene—his character Nalan Zheng, a warlord in the Republican era, is cleaning his wound, chugging alcohol, and flexing those muscles. They’ve just taken down some bandits and uncovered proof that among the traitors is a man named He Molin. Our male lead has been waiting five years for this moment to take him down. But if He Molin’s daughter wants to save her father, she has to marry him.
Enter He Anran, played by Hu Yiyao. She’s thinking about a man from her past, and it’s clear they had history. But not anymore—Nalan Zheng is out for revenge against her family. At their wedding, he drops the ultimate bomb: her father killed his mother. But wait, he calls her younger sister?! Omg, he wants the ultimate revenge by making “siblings” marry. No incest here, though—they’re not blood-related.
When the cast was first announced with Dai Gaozheng and Guan Yue as dual male leads, people assumed it would be BL-coded. But, it’s pretty much an angsty romance, and tragic bromance from the looks of it since the relationship between the three is complicated. Guan Hong plays the ruthless, androgynous tower master Mo Yutang, and judging by how he burns a photo of the male lead, there’s some serious grudge there. Oh, and he’s supposedly the younger brother?! But hey, Chinese shorts have always been intense. With a title like Sadistic Love, and a Chinese title Zhang Zhong Que, which translates to, “Sparrow in the palm of your hand,” we’re clearly in for a crazy ride.

Never heard of any of the 3 leads, (maybe I just don’t know the names but have see them somewhere) but plot sounds good enough for me to check it out.
