As the lunar new year festivities draw to an end, here are three brand new shows from China’s three major platforms coming out in the next few days that will hopefully get you out of that post-holiday slump. First off is Bai Jingting and Zhang Ruonan’s The First Frost 难哄 which already announced a February 18 premiere on Youku. Adapted from Zhu Yi’s novel of the same name, the spin off drama from 2023’s summer hit series Hidden Love will feature the story of Sang Zhi’s brother Sang Yan and his love interest Wen Yifan.
If February 18 is too far off for you, two more idol dramas will be competing for your attention as they kick off their first episodes this week. City of Romance 漫城, the youth drama adapted from Rao Xueman’s novel will be released on February 14 on iQIYI. Featuring Yu Chengen and Wang Zixuan, City of Romance tells the story of two complete opposites – Bai Xiao Duo who lies to hide her low self-esteem and talented cartoonist Su Yan Cheng who hates liars, and how they gradually healed each other.
Meanwhile, Always Home 树下有片红房子 tells the story of a tight knit group of friends who experienced life’s up and downs together from their teenage years all the way to adulthood. Led by Zhai Xiaowen’s character Jing Qichi and Yang Xizi’s Chen Huan Er who eventually fall for each other, life is never dull or lonely with their very own found family. The series also stars Daniel Zhou as Song Cong and He Qiu as Qi Qi. Always Home premieres on February 15 on Tencent.
