Barbie Hsu’s Husband DJ Koo Devastated by Her Loss

Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu’s unexpected passing from influenza and pneumonia complications has left many fans who grew up watching her reeling. And whilst many are still grieving the loss of the beloved actress, there’s no doubt her close friends and loved ones are inconsolable in their grief. However, no one was left feeling her loss more deeply than her husband DJ Koo who’d only just gotten her back after decades apart.

Close friends who attended Barbie’s cremation ceremony in Japan described the South Korean singer and DJ as inconsolable. “I am not okay” he said whilst on a call with Ilgan Sports. Meanwhile, good friend Chia Yeong-chieh said witnessing the sad scene of DJ Koo tearfully kissing his wife goodbye broke the hearts of everyone present. In a post on social media, the Taiwanese show host expressed her goodbyes to her friend. “We are still heartbroken but it seems we have no choice but to let go. I’ve shed endless tears and feel indescribable sadness. No matter how much I cry though, I can’t wake you from your slumber. In the end, Oppa gave you a heartfelt kiss and said goodbye to you lovingly. Our hearts broke at the sight of Oppa crying.”

Barbie and DJ Koo’s love story is the posterchild of a second chance romance. Before finally tying the knot after her split from ex Wang Xiaofei with whom she shared two children with, Barbie and Koo Jun-yup dated between 1998 and 2000. Although that relationship didn’t quite work out due to stipulations from his agency, the couple rekindled their romance from 20 years ago and finally said their “I Do’s” in 2022. What little time they had together may have been brief, but the couple looked really happy together.
