“Dream of Golden Years” (你好1983), iQIYI’s currently filming drama, has recently announced its cast that sees Scent of Time star Zhou Ye headlining yet another time travel/rebirth theme. While there’re a ton of dramas about entrepreneurial spirit, this one’s in the category of a shuang ju (爽剧) with comedic elements, which means it should be pretty satisfying what with a heroine hustling to make money in the 1980s. Zhou Ye’s Xia Xiaolan is certainly styled for the time period as she sports long hair with big volume.
Adapted from the novel Reborn 80s: Wife’s a Bit Hot (重生八零：媳妇有点辣 lit.) by Bao Zhuang Cheng, Xia Xiaolan is a 36-year-old modern woman who finds herself unexpectedly transported back to 1983, now inhabiting the body of an 18-year-old rural girl. In this new world, she may have no money, no power, no backing, but she’s armed with a lifetime’s knowhow to carve out a better life. Zhai Xiaowen plays her romantic interest, Zhou Cheng. The supporting cast includes Dong Xuan as Xiaolan’s mother Liu Fen, Lawrence Wong, Zhao Da, and Jiang Yi.
