Xu Kai is sporting a rugged look these days, and it’s all for his newest drama, Fang Yuan Ba Bai Mi (方圆八百米). The title, which is the pinyin of its Chinese name, translates to “800 Meters Radius” in English. The 29-year-old actor, has done many historicals, Republican, and modern dramas where he’s often the suave business executive. Xu Kai started 2024 filming another costume drama, which is none other than the anticipated Moonlit Reunion, but his subsequent dramas has seen the actor exploring more genres. Since then, he has wrapped up Youku’s suspense series Fire Investigator (火场追凶) and is now kicking off his yet another suspense thriller.
There’ve been many glimpses of the Fang Yuan Ba Bai Mi cast on set for a while now and the new Tencent series finally kicked off its booting ceremony, and along with that, we have the official cast announcement. Alongside Xu Kai, the main cast features 66-year-old actor Ding Yongdai, an industry veteran who’s said to be playing Xu Kai’s dad. Rounding up the main trio is 19-year-old Ancy Deng Enxi as the female lead. The supporting cast includes Hu Ke, Tu Songyan, Qu Shanshan, Zhao Qi, He Fengtian, and Su Xin.
Set in a suspense-filled small-town environment, the drama promises to explore the complexities of human nature. So it’s , but the show may just be a thrilling addition to Xu Kai’s diversifying portfolio.
