Darkside of the Moon (黑色月光), a Youku and TVB collaboration, recently concluded its 25-episode run. Marking Tavia Yeung’s (楊茜堯) return to TVB six years since 2018’s Another Era, the show initially garnered praise for its intriguing plot and good pacing. It seemed like it could be another major success, similar to The Queen of News, which has been confirmed for season 2. However, as the story progressed, things became more crazy, leaving many viewers frustrated by the time the finale aired. SPOILERS AHEAD.
What Happened to the Villains?
In the finale, each character met their respective fates. One big question was what happened to the villain, played by Rosina Lam. Many antagonists ended up taking each other down. But as for Cheuk Wai Wan, her power-hungry obsession backfired, leading to her downfall. Betrayed by her enemies and even those she trusted, such as Vincent Wong’s male lead Sing Fung, she lost everything, including her assets, and was ultimately committed to a mental hospital. Despite her efforts to cover her tracks, the discovery of blood-stained high heels sealed her fate, leaving some fans feeling that her punishment was too lenient given her crimes. Meanwhile, Cheuk Sai Kei, portrayed by Jonathan Cheung, managed to reclaim his family’s company as his sister’s empire crumbled.
Cheuk Wai Wan’s downfall felt more like an exposition than a dramatic unraveling, with the main characters explaining to her how they orchestrated her defeat. The finale did, however, provide happier resolutions for the protagonists played by Tavia Yeung and Vincent Wong. Yu Mun Yut, after initially leaving Sing Fung to figure out her life since she hasn’t thought about what to do after her revenge was completed, finally returned six months later to reciprocate his love.

Hinting at Season 2 Despite Mixed Reviews?
The end credits included a scene where Rosina Lam’s character, confined in the mental hospital, asked her doctor if there was any way she could get out. The doctor replied that it would be extremely difficult, but her evil glint hinted that she was not giving up easily. This left viewers speculating about a possible second season for Darkside of the Moon, although nothing has been confirmed.
But given how some viewers felt that the quality declined, with the story becoming more contrived and complaints about plot holes, and character decisions that didn’t make sense, that is in spite of the strong performances from the cast, whether viewers want a season 2 is also a question.
