South Korean actor Seo Ji-hoon has confirmed that he will be playing the second male lead in the upcoming romance drama My Youth alongside Song Joong-ki, Chun Wo-hee and Lee Joo-myung. In a statement through his agency, Management KOO, the 27-year-old actor said it’s a big honour for him to be working with industry seniors in such a great production.
His Upcoming Role in My Youth
Seo Ji-hoon plays Kim Seok-joo, a tax accountant who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Though he grew up with everything he could’ve ever asked for, he is lonely and rebellious.
My Youth which is expected to hit screens in 2025, follows the ups and downs of the long running relationship between Sun Woo-hae (Song Joong-ki) who started living an ordinary life later than most people and Sung Je-Yeon who must sacrifice her first love for her own success. Two people that have seen each other through bad times and have supported each other during the darkest points of their lives reunite ten years later to give love another chance for the second time around.
Seo Ji-hoon’s Dramas as a Second Lead
Since his 2016 debut in tvN’s fantasy mystery drama Signal, Seo Ji-hoon has constantly been cast in the second lead role it’s no wonder some have cheekily referred to him as a perennial second lead. After all, he’s been in such roles since early in his career from 2016’s Solomon’s Perjury, 2019’s Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency to Revenge of Others (this one’s different) and My Lovely Liar in recent years.
Even his guest roles such as in 2017’s Prison Playbook was not exempt though he did manage to get the girl before despite playing the second lead (Tale of Fairy, anyone?). Nevertheless, I dare say many of his fans are pretty hopeful to see their favourite actor take on more leading man roles in dramas.

As an actor, he may even prefer the second lead. To be honest, I don’t think featuring as a second leads is a bad thing, he has a fair amount of screen time without carrying the reputation of the drama on his back. And he also gets to improve his acting by featuring with senior and more experienced actors. It’s a win-win for him. Though undoubtedly, lead actors also come with a higher paycheck and more opportunities for CFs and sponsoring products. I too, hope his time come when he gets to really shine, I quite like him and I love his acting.
