Taiwanese actor Chris Wu Kangren shared the news today that he just signed a contract with Mainland Chinese agency Easy Entertainment (壹心). In his announcement, the Golden Horse Best Actor awardee said he’d always tried to push the envelope which is why challenging himself to get out of his comfort zone has always been a key motivator in developing his career. “Today it is with a prudent heart that I introduce you to my new friend, Easy Entertainment. In the days that come, I will no longer be alone. We will walk this path of growing as an actor together ..”
As an actor, the 41-year-old explained that for him, winning praise and awards doesn’t signify the end of his own journey as an actor and that there are always other possibilities worth exploring. Just like the industry seniors he looks up to, Wu Kangren promised he will continue to pursue their shadows, to gain his own understanding of what’s different, and to try to forge his own path.
As expected, reaction to his announcement was pretty mixed. Whilst some Netizens couldn’t help get a little political, pointing out the Taiwanese actor’s decision to turn towards the mainland to grow his career, many fans were also supportive. “Good luck! Don’t worry about the harsh words. It’s pointless to always politicise things. It will just annoy more people”. Another fan pointed out that actors have the right to choose scripts, and that includes the most important script of all, the “script of their own life”.

Ohhh! Very excited if it means Chris Wu will be filming more in the future because I have loved him in many of his old roles and can’t wait to see him try different genres! (I don’t think I’ve ever seen him in period before but that could be cool!)
