Yu Shi Seemingly Called Out by Zhang Yuqi for Cheating

In her recent stand-up comedy, Kitty Zhang Yuqi talked about a “friend,” a Shandong lady whom she said got cheated on by the younger guy she was dating. It’s worth noting that Zhang Yuqi is a Shandong native who has been known to date younger guys, not to mention her sarcasm while delivering her set made it hard to miss that she’s actually talking about herself.

Zhang Yuqi went on to say, “It was so sweet when they were together, calling and writing love poems every day. On Chinese New Year, this younger brother would travel all the way to her home to pay New Year greetings to her mother. But one day, she found out that this younger brother had an “eldest sister” outside. What kind of person do you think this is?” She also said big muscles can’t compare to having a big conscience.

So what made people even more certain Zhang Yuqi was throwing shade at Yu Shi? When the actress concluded her story, she asked everyone: “so, did they break up?” (于是，分手了吗？) In Mandarin, “so” or “therefore” is read as yu shi (于是). Coupled with the inflection of her voice when she emphasised the two syllables “yu shi”, many are now surmising that she was referring to her rumored ex-boyfriend Yu Shi (于适) instead. If so, then this also raises another question – did he cheat on Zhang Yuqi?

Yu Shi Rise to Fame After Creation of the Gods

27-year-old actor Yu Shi was the breakout star of Director Wuershan’s fantasy film Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms last year, which he followed up with a memorable role as the Kazach boy, Ba Tai, in To the Wonder in 2024.

Prior to fame in May 2022, Yu Shi was spotted seemingly on a date with Zhang Yuqi who is 9 years older. In August 2023, he was spotted with another woman whilst on a night out with friends. The sighting has led to new romance speculations and that his relationship with Zhang Yuqi has already gone sour. Zhang Yuqi’s recent comments that seemed to be a direct jab at Yu Shi has turned negative attention towards the actor. Netizens even sorted out a timeline from gossip that the actor was involved with four women around the same time in two years.
