Here’s another suspense thriller to add to your early autumn watch list. iQIYI series Original Sin 原罪 featuring the crime fighting tandem of Wang Haoxuan and Chen Huan has become the leading short web drama to beat. And it has only been a week since its release!
Not to be confused with the series that starred Zhai Tianlin and Yin Zheng, the web short drama series features Wang Haoxuan, everyone’s fave The Untamed “baddie” Xue Yang who now plays forensic doctor Dai Yu. 30-year-old actor Chen Huan who’s spent most of his career in supporting roles plays a main role this time as policeman Zheng Ming.
Gripping Crime Cases from the Start
From the get go, audiences were hooked by the insane case facing the two main actors of the story. When a headless female body was fished out of the river, Dai Yu and Zheng Ming are called to investigate. But the gruesome scene was just the beginning to the complex story that will unfold, because they are then called to check out a woman’s decapitated head found by the only witness who later disappears. Meanwhile, a unique nail design on the female corpse’s hands becomes a key clue.
Aside from the interesting plot, the personal quirks of Dai Yu and Zheng Ming add another layer of complexity. After all, where do you find a forensic doctor that detests removing his gloves, and a police man who dares not shoot? Because this certainly poses a challenge on how they’re going to do their jobs and solve their cases.
If you’re not in the mood for long drawn out narratives and prefer instead something fast-paced, Original Sin totally fits the bill. With the story in a short format where a full episode plays out within 20 minutes, viewers appreciated the story didn’t drag not to mention the crime scenes are pretty intense.
