The sixth season of Hong Kong police procedural drama Forensic Heroes 法證先鋒6 recently aired and avid fans didn’t seem to be too happy. The verdict? It’s not gonna be as good as the previous ones.
A Long-Running Franchise
The Forensic Heroes franchise, which has gone on for almost two decides since it was first released in 2006 starring Bobby Au has undergone many casting changes from Wayne Lai, Raymond Wong to a cast led by Bosco Wong for Forensic Heroes Seasons 5 and 6. Part of the charm of the show was that it captured every step of the investigation as it unfolds. Fans of police procedurals were satisfied and the cases were interesting. However, there are complaints that things have gone downhill.
First Impressions
In Forensic Heroes 6, Bosco Wong’s character Yu Sing Pak aka Yu Sir is supposed to be the senior investigative lead yet it doesn’t appear that Yu Sir is doing much investigating at all. Instead, he seems more focused on the search for his wife. The same can be said for forensic doctor Fan (Jacky Cai) and Sir Cheng who are more focused on other things rather than performing autopsies and investigating. Since the three main leads are “otherwise occupied”, it fell on supporting characters Joey Thye, Niklas Lam and Mandy Yuen to do the actual investigating and solve the case! In fact Netizens have jokingly started to refer to these three as the show’s protagonists instead.

Another odd thing? What’s up with the team’s propensity to analyse the case in bizarro locations, namely in either a café or a laundromat. Sure, since everyone needs their daily dose of caffeine, a café might still make sense (guess keeping the details of the case confidential isn’t an issue here). But a laundromat? Netizens pointed out it’s strange to meet in one that often coz you don’t need to do your laundry every day!
Thus far, the show is just a few episodes in so there’s still ample time for it to turn things around. Who knows, it just might (or might not) end up surprising audiences.

This is what happens when the director don’t pay attention to detail and the screenwriter is weak on the mystery and solving genre.

i just watch 2 eps, and it was weird to see them not solving any cases and more showing internal conflicts by the leads instead. the setting for discussion does not seem proper since its an active investigation, why are they discussing thing in public places?

-cont- i guess the screenwriter and director wants to highlight newcomers instead so the leads feels more like outsider on their own shows. hoping for better plot progression on upcoming eps.

I am a huge fan of the forensic heroes series and seeing it came out with a new one I was happy. When I watch the first episode I felt something was off but I thought maybe the second episode episode would be better. It was not great at all. I am a big tvb fan since I kids and seeing this series there was no action, the older cast appear on and off. The character did not solve any crime as I seen, Usually every 2-3 episode a crimes will appear I hid my 3rd episode no crimes has been solve or new one appear.

Well Forensic Heroes VI – redemption was a huge disappointment!! Far too many holes within the story line. Did the writer or the producer care? or did they just undermined the audience’s intelligent?
What’s with the odd Mandarin spoken by one of the forensics? The brother-in-law is odd, he doesn’t work, works on his computer but wears a tie at home? He’s agoraphobic but he goes out to meet someone he had never seen before!
As for the ‘friend’ who locked Bo-Ying in the basement for a year – where did she go to the bathroom? Change of clothes? the wife knew but didn’t want to acknowledge the fact that her husband is obsessed with someone else.
Alvin’s mother is happy to have someone else take care of her son.
Just a very bad series stringed together – introducing the TVB newcomers, which none can act! The most annoying is Niklas Lam who thinks he knows it all & just blab on about nothing! and the three openly discuss cases in the cafe – isn’t that information confidential??
Where are the reinforcements that the Japanese detective said were coming?
Just a mish-mash of incidents to make the series!! Don’t waste your time watching it!
What a waste of time!!
