Olympic fever has caught on in China and everyone, even celebs have caught the bug. With the prestigious event held in Paris this year, many stars have been flocking to the French capital to cheer on their favourite athletes. Amongst these, the cast of reality series Divas Hit the Road 花儿与少年 were lucky enough to score some seats for the men’s gymnastics all-around finals competition. Chinese actress Zhou Yutong who’s part of the cast, excitedly gushed “always proud of Team China!” Who knew though that she’ll soon be scolded for being insensitive?

In the now deleted post, Zhou Yutong shared several snaps from the event. What unexpectedly drew Netizen’s anger though, was how her smiling photos appeared insensitive when held in contrast against that of Zhang Boheng’s which she’d also shared that showed him smiling sadly who walked away with a silver medal after falling short of winning the gold.
Although her intent was clearly to show how proud she was of her team, win or lose, angry Netizens pointed out how the sense of defeat in the athlete’s eyes set against the actress’ smile was “so ironic” and that her taking pretty selfies in the face of Zhang Boheng’s moment of loss would make anyone angry. Others meanwhile are questioning whether it was really necessary to blow this out of proportion and bash her. Nonetheless, the post has already been taken down.

So unless you’re first, you’re nothing. What a terrible mentality and especially sportsmanship. It’s wonderful to place and get a medal…hell it’s amazing to be on a national team! wtf is wrong with ppl…

Omgee, that’s so ridiculous! Aparently, they’re also mad because he placed 2nd, which is tons and miles way better than not placing anything at all.

Chinese weren’t allowed to cheers on none winning teams. How sad? People are cheering athletes all the times regardless winning or not.
Xoxo
Silver is still a medal. And his hard work getting there should be celebrated. Why are they taking out their frustration on an innocent bystander who is proud of her country for winning silver?
I honestly can’t understand the mentality of these people. Why should celebrities be the nation’s punching bag?
