The grand finale of ‘Singer 2024‘ sparked controversy due to a viral conversation between Kazakh singer Dimash Qudaibergen and Canadian singer Faouzia Ouihya. Netizens speculated about potential bias in the rankings, suspecting that the winner had to be a Chinese singer. In response, Dimash released a statement on July 27, clarifying his remarks. He emphasized that his comments were misunderstood and explained that the show had simply wanted to pair Faouzia with a Chinese singer.

“I want to repeat my speech from yesterday’s filming and what is being discussed online today,” Dimash said. “I said, ‘Faouzia, I was glad when you offered to perform together, but I couldn’t accept this offer because they said it must be a Chinese singer.'” He clarified the misunderstanding that caused people to assume he was talking about the winner when they thought he said, “It must be a Chinese singer before you” when he really said, “It must be a Chinese singer for you.”

Dimash further elaborated, “Faouzia is an amazing singer, and all the finalists were incredible. The show decided on Zhang Jie to perform with Faouzia to promote higher cultural exchange between Canada and China.”
