Longtime friends Steven Zhang Xincheng and Uvin Wang Yuwen have collaborated for the first time as co-stars on the drama You Are My Lover Friend 舍不得星星. But, before anyone can say that it sounds like it has the potential to be a friends to lovers trope in the making – just like the title suggests except you know, it’s in real life, think again because Wang Yuwen says kissing her childhood friend in that scene felt pretty cringey.
From Childhood Friends to Onscreen Couple
Making a guest appearance in Wonderland 4, the 27-year-old actress was asked how it felt to play a couple with the 28-year-old actor whom she’d known since they were about 12-years-old and still students at the affiliated secondary school for Beijing Dance Academy back in 2008. Heck, even their families know each other and would hang out together from time to time. “It’s a bit awkward actually” she said. She added that she felt like she couldn’t really move her lips.
Even their parents didn’t know what to do or how to react to their kissing scene for the drama. Uvin Wang Yuwen recounts how she tried to nonchalantly bring up the subject and asked whether they’d seen the hot search as their kiss was one of the trending topics. That kissing scene was so awkward even our parents pretended nothing happened, she revealed. “Everyone suddenly went silent”. She said their parents confirmed they all saw it but just didn’t dare to ask!
It’s interesting how both Uvin Wang Yuwen and Steven Zhang Xincheng, both hailing from Hubei province, have been friends for 16 years. She said, “We grew up together” and it’s evident from how comfortable they are interacting with each other on the reality show. The same with Wang Ziqi with whom she’s worked with thrice already, yet they’ve never become a couple.
