Ada Liu Yan currently appears as a series regular on the variety show My Little One 我家那閨女2024. The series which focuses on the personal lives of modern women invited her mum together with other celebrity mums on the show where she unexpectedly caused a few ripples with her blunt remarks, at least when it comes to her daughter.
Still Single at 43
In the show’s recent episode, 72-year-old Mama Liu was lamenting about why her 43-year-old daughter is still a “leftover woman” (剩女), a term used to refer to women in their late 20s and older who remain unmarried, when the conversation veered towards the topic of marriage. Mama Liu also said, “I originally thought to look for someone older and more mature, but now that she’s so old, she can only look for an old man.” Whilst host Wu Xin quickly jumped in to smooth things over saying “she’s not a leftover woman, it’s just that she has more choices now“, it seems many were offended on Ada’s behalf.
Giving Up On Her Dreams
From the get go, it’s clear that Mama Liu is definitely worried about her daughter and that she’s a straight shooter who tells it how she sees it. Perhaps it was because of her delivery but Netizens saw differently. They also criticised the former teacher for airing out in public what she thinks are her daughter’s shortcomings such as her messiness and her poor cooking skills. To think she gave up her dreams to make money for mum’s cancer treatments, they said. Supposedly, Ada switched from the medical field (she wanted to be a nurse) to enter showbiz where she’s become known for her amazing figure and sexy image to support her mum. But then again, some reasoned it could really just be the way the older generation are programmed to think.
Ada looks to have come to terms with that side of her mum, previously sharing that although her mum used to be quite strict and that she felt her mum never listened to her in the past, it seems there’s also a cute side to her after all. This became more obvious after Ada Liu Yan’s father’s passing and both of them have had an easier time getting along. “Now that mum is living her ‘second spring’, she’s less likely to push her into marriage” Ada said.
These days, the actress has taken a major step back from the racier roles she previously appeared in such as playing the second lead in the 2022 hit series A Dream of Splendor. Ada Liu Yan recently appeared in the the fifth season of the comeback survival show Ride the Wind 2024.
