It’s refreshing to see Ariel Lin stepping out of her comfort zone in her upcoming film Blind Love 失明. When I think of the 41-year-old actress, I always remember her in girl next door roles. And whilst she’s definitely tried her hand in other genres, playing a lesbian isn’t one of them. In her debut film as a producer, Ariel doubly challenges herself as she couples up with Taiwanese actress Wu Kexi all whilst balancing her responsibilities as a producer behind the scenes.
Ariel Lin’s First Time as Producer
This being her first film serving as a producer, the Imperfect Us actress was totally hands on with everything from financing, script-writing to film production and promotion. “It’s a big challenge to participate in behind the scenes activities and to be in front of the cameras at the same time. Serving as the producer taught me a lot”, she said. Aside from this she also worried that the crew wouldn’t have enough to eat, so she made sure to prepare different dishes to make everyone feel right at home.
A Family Shake and a Mother Reunited with Her First Love
Blind Love is adapted from the award-winning novel of the same name by Liu Zijie which tells the story of a seemingly perfect family whose foundations are shaken when the mother (Ariel Lin) makes the choice to come out after marriage and reunite with her first love, an old schoolmate played by Wu Kexi.
The film was titled Blind Love to show that in a relationship, people are oft bright-eyed but blinded as they are unable to see reality clearly. Ariel’s character gradually develops problems with her vision whilst ironically seeing more clearly the things that are most important to her.
Blind Love also features Liu Jing and Li Mingzhong just to name a few.
