Miriam Yeung joins the growing number of celebrities who have all flocked to the mainland because of work opportunities. According to media reports, the Hong Kong singer-actress and her family moved to Shanghai in April of this year.
In recent years, Miriam has taken on a lot more work in the mainland, frequently appearing in variety shows with her husband Real Ting such as Viva La Romance 3 妻子的浪漫旅行3 and Mr. Housework 3 做家务的男人3. She has also appeared in a handful of musical programs such as Praise the Program 为歌而赞, The Treasure 谁是宝藏歌手 and Our Song 我们的歌3 just to name a few. However, with stringent quarantine rules still in place between Hong Kong and China, it hasn’t been easy for artists who’ve had to shuttle between home and their places of work in the mainland.
For Miriam in particular, having to constantly travel back and forth and going under quarantine is both time consuming and troublesome. This also means less family time to spend with her 9-year-old son Torres who’s home in Hong Kong. No longer wanting to be separated from him for long periods of time, Miriam and her husband finally made the decision to move the entire family to Shanghai.
Why Shanghai you may ask? It appears Real has some family in town so staying there makes a lot of sense. Since making the big move with her family, Miriam Yeung said that it’s a different feeling this time, not having to quarantine alone any more since she has her son with her. Moreover, this time around they both have more time to get closer to each other.
Update:
Miriam clarifies that the move is just temporary as the family still considers Hong Kong home. “I’m not relocating. Hong Kong is still home so I will surely return. It’s just that I’ve accepted some work commitments in the mainland and I plan to see them through” she said. Real on the other hand will be flying back and forth between the two cities as his business is based in Hong Kong.
Miriam confirmed though that Torres will be staying with her. “I don’t want to be apart from him for a long time.” Hence, Torres will be going to school in Shanghai for the mean time.
