A Bona Fide Killer brings another badass, vigilante-style protagonist to the K-drama scene. Following hit dramas like Agent Kim Reactivated and Teach You a Lesson, A Bona Fide Killer adds another take on the genre, this time with a female protagonist, played by none other than 46-year-old actress Gong Hyo-jin who has led many classic K-dramas in her heyday. Gong Hyo-jin’s character is a mother, wife and daughter-in-law, who also works as an assassin, struggling to balance her high-risk career with an ordinary family life. A Bona Fide Killer’s rise in ratings may not be the fastest, but it has been a steady climb.
The show premiered with a nationwide rating of 7.4% and has since reached a new series high of 10.2%, breaking into double digits for the first time. It is also outperforming Flex x Cop Season 2 on SBS, which pulled in 5.7% ratings for its most recent episode. A Bona Fide Killer shrugs off criticism towards male lead Jung Joon-won, with some viewers saying he is not “good-looking” enough to match how the character is described in the original webtoon and controversy surrounding his “introverted” behavior during a variety show appearance. Meanwhile, A Bona Fide Killer recently wrapped filming, with the cast appearing to be in good spirits as they attended the wrap party at a restaurant in Yeouido, Seoul.
