Agent Kim Reactivated Ratings Nearly Double as So Ji-sub Makes Explosive Comeback

SBS drama Agent Kim Reactivated just made a splash in the Friday-Saturday timeslot, premiering with a strong 9.5% nationwide rating before nearly doubling to 15.7% on its second day. These are pretty groundbreaking numbers amid today’s “drama drought,” where even hit dramas don’t pull in the same ratings they used to. And with So Ji-sub, already a leading actor since his younger days and known for K-drama classics like 2004’s Sorry, I Love You, achieving record ratings with his newest drama is certainly another career milestone and a testament to his staying power. It also marks So Ji-sub’s return to SBS after 13 years, with his previous drama on the network being The Master’s Sun in 2013.

In Agent Kim Reactivated, the 48-year-old actor plays Manager Kim, an ordinary office worker and single dad. But when his daughter goes missing, he reverts to his former life as an elite spy. The series blends action and comedy, especially with co-stars like The Wonderfools actor Choi Dae-hoon and Yoon Kyung-ho. The latter even made a promise, saying, “If the ratings surpass 13%, I’ll remain silent and meditate for 13 hours.” Joo Sang-wook rounds out the cast as the main antagonist. The series also airs on Netflix, where K-drama Teach You a Lesson recently became a global hit. Interestingly, shows with incredibly capable protagonists who punish evil and uphold justice have been especially popular lately, becoming a satisfying outlet for the average viewer.
