After military enlistment in July last year, South Korean star Cha Eun-woo became embroiled in a tax controversy in early 2026. The 29-year-old actor issued two public apologies, saying he respected the findings and had fully paid all outstanding taxes, reportedly amounting to 13 billion won (about US$9 million). With uncertainty over how the controversy will affect his career, he resurfaced in April in photos showing him performing with the military band. Furthermore, The WONDERfools, a superhero comedy drama starring Park Eun-bin and Cha Eun-woo, is gearing up for its Netflix premiere on May 15, 2026.
Aside from Cha Eun-woo who’s still in the military, the cast and director Yoo In-sik recently attended a press conference in Seoul. When asked about about how Cha Eun-woo’s tax scandal would affect his scenes in the drama, Yoo In-sik said, “We came across the reports while we were in the editing and post-production stage. This drama has been a dream project of mine for a long time, and it is also a work that all the staff poured tremendous effort into. We did our best to complete it to the highest standard possible. I cannot go into details publicly at the press conference, and I ask for your understanding.”
The WONDRfools follows four ordinary people who unexpectedly gain superpowers and rise up against evil forces. Cha Eun-woo plays a civil servant in Haeseong City who often eats alone and lacks social skills, but possesses telekinetic powers. The director teased, “He has lived quietly all this time, but after people discover him using telekinesis, he goes through a process of forced socialization. He is a character with many secrets.” As for Park Eun-bin who reunites with director Yoo In-sik after Extraordinary Attorney Woo, her character has the power of teleportation.
