Patrick Tse (謝賢), affectionately known as “Fourth Brother”, has passed away at the age of 89 on July 20, 2026. His son, actor-singer Nicholas Tse, confirmed the news, revealing that his father passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He wrote, “It is with great sadness that I announce that my father, Patrick Tse, has left us. He devoted his entire life to film, television, and entertainment, hoping to bring joy and smiles to every audience. When I was young, I also saw moments when he felt troubled and discouraged, but no matter what, he always insisted on appearing before the camera at his very best. He often said, ‘The show must go on.’ So if you think of Fourth Brother, if you think of my father, don’t cry or be too sad. He would think that isn’t stylish enough. All we need to do is keep the image of his everlasting charm and warm smile in our hearts.”
According to reports, Nicholas Tse, who had been preparing for his upcoming concerts in mainland China immediately returned to Hong Kong to handle his father’s funeral arrangements. Reports also said that, in accordance with Patrick Tse’s wishes, all arrangements would be kept discreet. His daughter, Jennifer Tse, is also expected to return from Canada where she is based.
Born in 1936, Patrick Tse earned the nickname “Fourth Brother” because he was the fourth child in his family and later cemented the moniker through his iconic role as Lo Sei-hoi in the classic TVB drama The Shell Game. Patrick Tse enjoyed a legendary showbiz career spanning more than 70 years, winning Best Actor at the 40th Hong Kong Film Awards at the age of 85.
