Congratulations to Patrick Tse! Proving that anything is possible regardless of age, the 85-year-old veteran actor landed a major win yesterday when he finally brought home his very own award for Best Actor in the 40th Hong Kong Film Awards held last night. This makes Patrick the oldest actor to ever win the award and also marks a lot of firsts for him, this being his very first Best Actor nomination after seven decades in showbiz and also his first Best Actor win in the HKFA.
Patrick Tse won the award for his role as a retired and aging killer in the movie Time 殺出個黃昏 where he redirects his skills as a former hitman towards assisted suicide for his new elderly clients with some of his “colleagues”. And, like his movie character who came out of retirement to find a new purpose, Patrick reportedly returned to showbiz to film this with his Deep in Love co-star Petrina Fung.
Incidentally, Patrick’s son, Nicholas Tse’s film Raging Fire is also up for a few awards including Best Film and Best Director. Although Nicholas was not nominated for Best Actor which would’ve put him up against his father for the coveted award, Raging Fire still emerged as one of the evening’s big winners. Out of the eight categories it was nominated for, the movie nabbed four awards including Best Director for the late Benny Chan. While Nicholas wasn’t physically present to witness his father receiving the award, he took to social media the same night to say, “Congrats dad“
