Costume fantasy romance drama Inverted Fate (攻玉) has officially announced its cast led by Joseph Zeng Shunxi and He Nan. The drama is adapted from a novel of the same name by Ning Long, the same author behind Love Song in Winter. Set during the prosperous Tang Dynasty, the story follows Teng Yuyi, the daughter of a military family. In her previous life, she was murdered. After being reborn one year before the tragedy, she acquires the demon-slaying sword and resolves to uncover the truth and protect her family. Along the way, she meets Lin Chengyou, the heir of Cheng Wang. Initially, the two cannot stand each other, but they work together to solve a series of mysterious supernatural cases involving demons and spirits. Romance gradually blossoms, while they uncover the fateful connection linking their past and present lives.
So it sounds like the rebirth dramas we’ve been seeing a lot of lately, but also feels like it would be different with the the story fitting into the fantasy genre. Zeng Shunxi plays Lin Chengyou, an arrogant and unruly nobleman who is actually highly skilled in Taoist arts. He Nan levels up from her supporting role in Love in the Clouds to play the female lead Teng Yuyi. Some protest the 27-year-old actress’ casting over controversies she has faced from accusations about favoring certain fans to claims she’s five years older than her current age. Other cast include Hu Yixuan, Connie Kang Ning, Zhao Zhiwei, Zhang Zhihao, Liu Xianda, and Pan Junya.
