A decade after Signal, which followed two detectives from the past and present connecting through a walkie-talkie that transcends time, its sequel Signal Season 2 is finally confirmed to air on December 7, 2026. The news comes despite 50-year-old actor Jo Jin-woong being forced into sudden retirement following controversies from a past juvenile criminal record to alleged misconduct as an actor.
While the drama was postponed last year due to the issue, tvN has made the decision to proceed with airing the sequel. They said that any misconduct committed is an issue that the broadcasting network cannot afford to take lightly. However, Signal Season 2 is not the work of just one cast member. From the planning stages to filming and post-production, it represents the collective time, dedication, and hard work of numerous staff members, the production team, and everyone involved. They wrote, “We believe it is necessary to distinguish between the public’s judgment of an individual cast member, the value of the production itself, and the hard work and dedication of the staff members who contributed to its creation.”
The network also revealed that it had attempted to modify the relevant scenes using video-editing technology and had tested the use of AI technology to replace the actor’s face. However, these technologies still have limitations when it comes to naturally preserving the actor’s performance and maintaining the smooth flow of the storyline. Signal 2 will premiere with three episodes during its first week. Episodes 1 and 2 will air consecutively on December 7, followed by Episode 3 on December 8. After that, it will return to its regular schedule of one episode every Monday and Tuesday, for a total of eight episodes.
