Hong Kong actress Angela Yuen (袁澧林) has published a lengthy post on social media titled “The Apologies That Will Never Come,” in which she revealed multiple incidents of sexual harassment and gender discrimination she has experienced throughout her acting career.
The post opens with an interview at the premiere of the 2025 Hong Kong film Gamer Girls, during which a male journalist compared the seven women being interviewed to women working in hostess clubs. Yuen confronted him and demanded an apology, but received only awkward silence. The 32-year-old actress went on to recount numerous examples of misogyny she had encountered in the entertainment industry. A male director allegedly told her, “You don’t look like someone people would want to sleep with, but rather someone they genuinely want to be friends with.” In another incident, a crew member called out to her in Japanese, asking, “Do you like my d*ck?” She also described a male actor kissing her on the cheek without first asking for her consent, as well as a photographer whose suggestion to shoot from a high angle was accompanied by jokes about focusing on her breasts.
Angela Yuen stressed that these incidents are not isolated but reflect a wider industry culture that normalizes the objectification of women. She also highlighted how women are often told to accept inappropriate behavior with excuses such as “That’s just how he is” and admitted that the cost of speaking out is often so heavy that it becomes unbearable. Her post has trended as many, including fellow actresses, praised her courage. However, Yuen said she’s not trying to become a hero, describing herself as an ordinary woman who’s simply healing the inner child in her who longed for a brave senior to stand up for others.
