Xie Na Faces Backlash as Concert Tour Hits a Snag

Chinese host and actress Xie Na recently found herself at the center of controversy over her dreams to sing in her own full-fledged concert tour.

Earlier this year, Xie Na fulfilled her dream by holding her first solo concert in Chengdu in May, which was completed through the help of her husband, singer Zhang Jie, who not only took the stage with her but also acted as chief director. At the time, it had felt sentimental despite Xie Na being known as a host and not a singer. However, while hosting the highly-popular reality show Ride the Wind 2026 where she first announced her concert, which was thought to be a one-time event, the 45-year-old star unexpectedly announced a nationwide concert tour, with the first stop in Beijing scheduled for July 11. It sparked criticism online and Xie Na was mocked over the quality of her performances like the Bo Luo Bo Luo Mi song.

Chinese state media weighed in, commenting that internet celebrities and TV personalities who mainly work as hosts, but lack a strong catalog of original music, could struggle to attract audiences if they launch nationwide concert tours. Although the article did not mention Xie Na by name, many viewed it as a clear response to her situation. Meanwhile, supporters feel it’s a non-issue to go on tour as long as fans are willing to watch. Following the growing controversy, Xie Na’s Beijing concert was suddenly canceled. The event organizer also announced ticket refunds and compensation arrangements for affected fans.
